A Month of Italian Sundays

In the grand fashion of traditional Italian Sunday night dinners Panzano is excited to offer a special 3 course tasting menu for $35 each Sunday evening with optional wine pairings accompanying each course for $15. Each month the menu and wines will reflect a different region of the Italian culinary and oenological landscape.For May it will be Umbria. Located almost dead in the center of Italy, Umbria is an oft overlooked region for unique Italian cuisine. Framed on three sides by the Apennines Mountains, Umbria is the only totally landlocked municipality in Italy. What it is known for, however, are two of Italy’s hallowed treasures, some of the best and most fragrant olive oil and black truffles that are often found by the denizen’s bevy of small, pot-bellied pigs. The wine scene has taken an upturn in the past half century with many producers finding unique and different takes on what have been Tuscan traditions. The wines we are featuring this month include a Grechetto made much in the style of a classic Orvieto and a blend of Sangiovese and a local varietal called Sangrantino. Salud!
